The Monte Selva is situated on the S.S. 17, near the junction for Barisciano , just 15 minutes away from the artistic setting of the city of L’Aquila , the "City of the number 99", as History says its churches, its districts, its squares and its fountains have been so many throughout the years; this tradition is fully represented by the "Fontana delle 99 cannelle" (Fountain of the 99 pipes), built in 1272. The Monte Selva holds a strategical position, being in the plains of Navelli, widely known for the production of Saffron, and surrounded by medieval castles and ruins of Roman cities like Peltuinum and the vast necropolis discovered near Capestrano. Here a famous statue of an Italic Warrior, dated back to the sixth century B.C., was discovered. Being between the southern entrance of the Gran Sasso e Monti Della Laga National Park and the northern entrance of the Velino-Sirente Regional Park, only about 15 Kms away from the cross-country ski runs of the Campo Imperatore plain and about 20 minutes by car from the ski runs of Gran Sasso, Campo Felice and Ovindoli , the B&B is well-suited as a base for those fond of mountain sports, including climbing, hiking, horse riding, skiing, mountaineering, mountain bike riding and much more in every period of the year.
